When it comes to creating and launching a well-balanced, efficient marketing campaign, there are a lot of moving parts. You finally learned the difference between and ad and a post on Facebook. Your event finally has a really sleek looking geofilter on Snapchat. But if you’re only paying attention to the high-level components… you are still missing some important parts. It’s the little things that can make a big difference. The difference between getting a customer to click on your link or not can actually be in what that link looks like. Enter: Bitly.

Bitly is simply a site you can visit ( or to shorten any link. Often times, links can look long and mess; Bitly shortens them to a couple, customizable characters that are much more friendly and clickable.

How to set it up:

  1. In order to take advantage of Bitly’s full capabilities, we recommend creating an account and logging in
  2. Select the industry that relates to you upon logging in
  3. Top bar is a cumulative summary of all your links’ metrics, bottom left is a list of all your links, and the bottom right includes metrics on the selected link

  4. Let’s press, “Create Bitlink” in the top right. For this example, we’ll link to a blog about 12 digital marketing trends:

  5. As soon as you paste the link into the highlighted box, it will automatically shorten
  6. You’ll notice you can edit the title and can customize the link to make it relevant to the campaign. For this example it makes sense to change it to
  7. Once your link is live and starts accumulating clicks, metrics will start to appear in the top bar
  8. And more specific information regarding your specific link will appear in the bottom right
